Wood-Nettle Genus Details
Wood nettle is in the same family as the stinging nettle (Urticaceae). It has opposite leaves and 4-sided stems with stinging hairs. It is a weed found in disturbed areas, farmyards, roadsides and pastures. The sharp pointed hairs have a bulbous base filled with irritating fluid. These hairs break when they penetrate the skin, releasing the fluid.

Little or no pollen allergenicity has been reported. Stinging hairs located on the stem and leaves cause a type of dermatitis.
Wood-Nettle Pollen Description
Pollen grains are oblate-spheroidal to spheroidal, and are small with a rounded-triangular amb. The grains are 2-4 porate and the pores are circular.
Pollen grains are usually 12-15 micrometers.
